The board of directors for the bi-state, nonprofit Tahoe Arts Project has the arts schedule for its 21st season and is planning a major fundraising event to support the schedule. TAP aims to keep the arts thriving in South Lake Tahoe by presenting professional performing artists to students and producing a public performance series for the community's enjoyment.

TAP will host an Oscar Night Benefit on Feb. 24 at the MontBleu Theater. Hosted by Randy and Theresa Daggs of Dyna "Mic" Duo, the Oscar Night will include a five-course dinner, silent auction, raffle and betting prizes, entertainment, celebrity lookalikes, live broadcast of the Oscars on a giant screen and much more.

The cost is $65 per person, and reserved tables for 10 can be purchased for $700 and booths for two for $150. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 7 at the California and Nevada visitor centers and from TAP board members. In addition to attendance, supporters of the Oscar Night benefit can advertise in the program, donate to the silent auction, volunteer before, during and after the event.

-- Word for Word Short Stories Brought to Life is sponsored in part by Kerry and Wendy David, and school shows (K-12) will take place March 24-28 with a public performance March 28 at Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theater.

-- The Kusun Ensemble West African Music and Dance is sponsored in part by Robert and Pat Dodds, and school shows (K-12) will take place April 28-May 2 with a public performance May 2.

TAP is a bistate, nonprofit organization that hires artists to perform at 11 local schools serving over 5,000 kindergarten through 12th-grade students to meet the need for high-quality fine arts activities for the region's children. "For most of these children, TAP provides their only exposure to live performing arts," said TAP's executive director, Peggy Thompson.

The nonprofit organization relies on the generosity of the local community to sponsor and fund the programs TAP brings to enrich the lives of local children. Donations will support the 2008 school performance programs. To make a donation, obtain a membership application, volunteer and for more information, call (530) 542-3632, e-mail tahoearts@aol.com, or visit www.tahoeartsproject.org.

The mission of Tahoe Arts Project is to provide cultural enrichment and diversity for the South Lake Tahoe community through the arts and education with particular focus on our youths.
