Karsten Gronwold, a former South Lake Tahoe
elementary school teacher convicted of possessing
child pornography, has been sentenced to more than
eight years in federal prison.
Gronwold, an Australian citizen, likely will be
deported to Australia after his sentence,
according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's
Office.
U.S. District Judge William Shubb sentenced
Gronwold to 97 months in prison Monday.
"My behavior was indeed horribly wrong, and for
that I am sorry," Gronwold said during sentencing,
according to the statement. He also admitted to "a
hidden life of lies and secrets" before his
arrest.
The El Dorado County District Attorney's Office
previously said Gronwold will face a charge of
lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor under 14.
It could be brought before El Dorado Superior
Court after the federal case concludes.
In August, Gronwold pleaded guilty to possessing
images of boys engaged in sexual conduct.
